Position Overview

Title:  TEMPORARY Property and Facilities Assistant

Department:  Facilities

Classification:  Non-Exempt; Non-Union

Schedule: First shift. Schedule negotiable. 

The Property & Facility Assistant performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds at various SCSI facilities/sites. The Property & Facility Assistant supports the Lead Property & Facility Assistant of all vehicle and facility related tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform repair or maintenance work of facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment of various sites including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and painting tasks
  • Repair structures including but not limited to showers, floors, sinks, walls, carpets, and roofs
  • Perform minor repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of locks on cabinets, doors, and desks
  • Move and assist in transportation of furniture and equipment, assist in setting up and breaking down cubicle partitions and offices
  • Support in maintaining the agency fleet, such as routine maintenance, emissions, registration, and insurance cards
  • Support the plans for fire evacuation and disaster response
  • Support SCSI properties in severe weather, such as snow removal, salt/sand. 
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors as scheduled, including understanding timelines and cost estimates to key SCSI projects
  • Exercise discretion to identify projects that need higher skilled crafts services
  • Maintain a current driver’s license and any/all other training and requirements as it relates to current policy
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures
  • Perform all other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building and maintenance trades, including but not limited to basic knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical
  • Familiar with OSHA, CARF, and DPH certifications and requirements
  • Valid, current driver’s license
  • Ability to efficiently use various power and hand tools
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Competent user of technology

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and climb stairs
  • Regularly required to walk, talk and/or hear
  • Speaking and hearing ability should be sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes
  • Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally required to stand and climb or balance
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs
